Deep down, most of us want to please God. Even if we don’t say it out loud, we feel it. We know there’s a right way to live, and we know we fall short. We promise we’ll do better, then stumble in the same old ways. After a while, the question won’t go away: how can I please God?
Have you ever wondered, "How can I please God?" If so, our Bite-Sized Bible course is just for you!
Before you begin, make sure you leave time to take the quiz. We created these quizzes to help you remember the material better. So don't forget!
And I've slipped in a bonus quiz at the end of this page as well. Try it. See if you like it.
So, let's answer our question.
It’s easy to reach for the wrong answer. We think, “If I could just be a little more moral. More religious, maybe. Maybe even more disciplined. Maybe then, God will be happy with me.”
So what do we do?
This kind of thinking leads us in a very specific direction. We start to think that pleasing God first starts with us. We have to initiate the process. Then God helps us.
Nothing is further from the truth.
The Bible doesn’t start with us trying harder. It starts with God. It's His holiness, His law, His mercy, and what He's already done in Jesus Christ.
Pleasing God isn’t first about cleaning up our act. It’s about being in a right relationship with Him. And there's a Grand Canyon-width between the two.
You can’t really please God while you’re still in your sins. You can’t please the Father while you ignore the Son He sent (Hebrews 7:18). Real peace with God starts when you stop trusting yourself and start trusting Jesus Christ (Hebrews 11:6). When that happens, something new begins inside you.
We've constructed this course with a specific aim in mind. So make sure to take the lessons in order. We start with guilt. That may seem strange, but there's good reason for it.
Before we talk about obedience, we have to talk about that heavy, unsettled feeling in the soul. We're not "good people" who weren't educated well or had the right environment. We're sinners. We have to start there.
But guilt isn’t the end of the story. God doesn’t expose our sin just to leave us crushed. He shows us our need so He can lead us to hope. He provides a way of salvation and forgiveness through Christ's sacrifice (John 14:6; Ephesians 1:7).
Once that sinks in, the question shifts. We stop simply asking, “How can I please God?” and start asking, “How can I thank Him?” Obedience stops being a desperate way to earn points. It becomes a response of love (John 14:15).
This Bite-Sized Bible course walks through that journey in three short steps.
Put together, these lessons will help answer the bigger question, "How can I please God?" (Hebrews 11:6; Colossians 1:10).

Guilt is more than a vague feeling we try to shake off. It points to something real between God and us. In this lesson, we look at why guilt is so common, what it says about our sin, and how God uses conviction to wake us up to our need for mercy (John 16:8; Psalm 32:3–5).
If our guilt is real, can it really be taken away? This lesson walks through how God forgives sinners through Jesus Christ. It also delves into why the cross is the only solid ground for peace with God (Romans 5:1; Colossians 1:19–22). You’ll see that forgiveness isn’t wishful thinking. It’s a promise based on what Christ has already done (Hebrews 10:14–18).
Once God has forgiven us, how do we live now? This lesson shows that obedience isn’t a way to pay God back. It’s a grateful response to His grace (Titus 2:11–12). We’ll explore what it looks like to follow Christ with love and commitment (Romans 12:1–2; Galatians 5:22–25).

Even if you don't take this course, please read what follows.
Pleasing God is the most difficult in the universe. There's only one human being who could and did accomplish it. His name is Jesus Christ.
For us, the plan is simple. Jesus did all the work for us when He died on the cross. He took our place and pleased God on our behalf (Isaiah 53).
Here's the point. All God calls us to is faith in Jesus Christ. We could never please God. Jesus did it for us. We believe in Christ. God is pleased.
It's as simple as that.
Put your trust in Christ today. Follow Him now and forever. Never turn back. Glorify God.
You'll never regret pleasing God. God bless.
Test what you’ve learned about guilt, forgiveness through Christ, and the obedient life that flows from faith.
